While I haven't had a chance to use the camera a lot, I like what I have done. Photos even using the fully automatic mode come out crystal clear. Other settings give you great versitility. The camera feels very very well built and I like the fact that it is a little heavier than other simular cameras. So far I haven't found anything I don't like. I plan to use it mostly for macro, landscape and family photography.

The D300 takes some getting used to as you have to make a number of decisions about settings that lesser cameras make for you but that is the fun & challenge of working with it. I like the size and weight, and of coure the flexibility of the EF series lenses. I was hoping to use a eye.fi in it, but the CF to SD/SDHC card doesn't seem to work in this camera, so that's a shame. I went out and bought a 266x CF card, and the speed is great! I plan to use it for hobbyist and family photography as well as client website graphics and some stock photography. I expect to be able to convince my Wife to use it in some of her shoots (she is a film-only pro).

This is my second 5D and im sure ill buy another one next year... I shoot travel and underwater images and like to turn over my body every 12 months. The 5d is all i am looking for... make sure you get the Grip if you have BIG hands like i do, it makes all the difference when you have a chunk of Glass like the 70-200 2.8 IS attached.. I have owned the 20D and this was the obvious choice... Its not the fastest camera out there so if you are shooting sports you mat want to use the 40D.. Oh and upgrade the firmware as soon as you get it.. this makes a hugh difference to the image color saturation.

The camera is very easy to learn and use for a digital novice like me. The camera is used for everyday pictures, and also used to photograph our military veterans for display at our local Veterans Museum. The digital view finder is an added plus on sunny days, as the sun tends to wash out the LCD. But this would happen on any LCD. The zoom works great, and focus' quickly. After using full body 35mm camera for years the smaller size takes some getting used too, but I am adapting nicely.
